What you may want to know
How do you book?
You can e-mail or message me, call me, or fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page. Tell me when you need me, where you live, and any important details about your cat(s) (how many there are, if they need medication, or any special care, for instance). I will get back to you as soon as possible with my availability. We can then take it from there.
If the request goes ahead, I will send you an e-mail form where you fill in your and your cat's information, and we'll agree on a date and time to meet personally. I'll visit you at home, and we can discuss what you need me to do for your cat and how to keep them happy and relaxed while you're away.
What do you have to do before the cat-sitting period?
Ensure your cat has everything they'll need at home while you're away. You can find my checklist here. A note with any info on your cat's care you don't want me to forget is much appreciated, too. Leave their carrier open and visible to your cat and their passport where I can easily find it if need be.
Make sure your cat is flea-free, de-wormed and up to date with their check-ups and vaccinations.
Leave your home safely ventilated but at a pleasant temperature (please remember: To stay warm, cats need a higher ambient temperature than humans), and create cozy, snug and protected spots for them to feel secure and comfortable while you're away.
Inform your backup person (a friend, family member, colleague, neighbour, etc.) that you'll have a sitter over and ask them to be alert if help is needed. This person should be someone you can rely on. As a solo sitter, if I am incapacitated (unlikely, but better safe than sorry), they must be able to help with your cat's care until you return. You should also ensure that this person, or someone else you trust, has a copy of your house keys. I have a safety procedure in place, too. I can explain this in the introduction meeting.
What's included in a visit?
During a regular visit, I will feed your cat, refresh their water, wash all their bowls, scoop their litter trays, play or cuddle, and, if safely possible and you allow, let them out on the balcony or garden. I also leave a written daily report of what has been done, and if there is information I can share with you to make your cat even happier at home, I will gladly do so. I also send you daily updates, photos, or videos of what we did together.
Additional paid services include giving your cat medication (pills, syrups, drops, lotions, vials, insulin injections, subcutaneous fluids, aerosol inhalations, etc.), washing and refreshing the litter trays, cleaning up "accidents" that may occur, taking your cat to the vet, extra playtime, or getting supplies from the store for your cat if they run out.
Can I visit more than once a day?
Of course I can! I'll make one or two visits, depending on your preference. Double visits are essential for cats who need medication, extra attention and activity. I can also add extra play or company time to an existing visit to make your cat happier (hint: it's cheaper for you, too). However, some cats are satisfied with just one visit a day. We can discuss this at the introduction meeting. More than that? That's also possible. I can help more times a day or stay overnight in special situations.
What happens if supplies run out while you're away?
I can make a quick run to the store for you to get food, cat litter, or anything else you need. I charge a fee for that, which will be added to your invoice, and you pay for the supplies on top. I won't make any purchase without discussing this with you first.
What happens if your cat's unwell or gets injured during your absence?
You'll be the first one to know! I'll contact you immediately to discuss the problem and determine whether your cat needs to see a veterinarian. I can bring your cat to the practice and stay with them if you wish, and adjust my visits to allow for extra care. There are costs involved in getting to and from the practice, getting your cat in their carrier, staying during the consultation, administering medication and making additional visits. Vet fees are at your expense.
How do you pay me?
Once the cat-sitting period is over, I will send you an electronic invoice with the details of my fees and an online payment request link. You can then pay by bank transfer.
What happens if you need to cancel?
When you book me, I will block the dates and times you have requested for other clients. There is no problem if you cancel well in advance, but last-minute cancellations mean I may not have the chance to offer those slots to someone else, and my income will be affected. That's why I charge 30% of the total booking amount for cancellations within 10 days of my scheduled start date. 50% for cancellations within 5 days or less, and 100% on the day before starting or during the cat-sitting period. I am also unable to move the cancelled dates to a different booking. This is a necessary measure to enable me to continue in business and offer my services to you in the future. As a small business owner, I appreciate your understanding.
Would I water (inside) plants or collect your mail?
Yes, that's no problem, but please be aware that I'm not as good with plants as with cats... I can only do my best.
Your post will be fine.
How do I get your keys, and how do you get them back?
I prefer to get your keys and try them out during our introduction meeting. However, if it’s easier for you, you can drop them off at a location we'll agree on a few days before I start looking after your cat. At the end of the cat-sitting period, I’ll leave them in your home or letterbox or hold on to them for the next time. If you’d rather arrange a different time for key collection or return, we can do that for an additional fee.
Can you speak Dutch to me?
Yes. English is my preferred language for professional communication, but I understand Dutch fairly well. Spanish? Yes, please!
Anything else?
Yes! Please note that I don't do less than one visit a day. Leaving cats on their own for more than 24 hours is not only boring for them but also risky, and I do not recommend it.
